[JTL] ARC-170 Multiplayer Ship Guide

psikobunny wrote preNGE: The ARC is a strange beast, that's for certain. With the proper mindset, it can be a mammoth force to be reckoned with, but it requires a lot of out of the box thinking. Let's begin by talking about what the ARC is not, because to use one effectively you have to handle it far differently than any other ship out there. What the ARC is not suited for: 1on1 dogfighting- Trying to solo in the ARC isn't easy and while it can be done, its certainly not the best use. PvP- further discussion in this thread and some thinking from ardent PvPers may prove me wrong, but I don't ever see this ship being a PvP force to be reckoned with, at l…

[JTL] Tie Opprresor Guide

From the Desk of an old Oppressor pilot.... There are two predominant loadouts that are commonly preferred by Oppressor pilots and several popular variations. The Oppressor is one of the few ships that has a viable crafted parts loadout that works very well in PVP. The TIE oppressor is a multi role starfighter. Many people consider it merely a missile boat, however this is very untrue and leads many people to underestimate the Oppressor's strengths. While the Oppressor is the only fighter in game to boast three missile tubes, it is a very capable gunship and extremely capable in the dogfight if properly kitted and flown. There are two main variations, a dog…

[JTL] Tie Interceptor PVP Guide

The TIE Interceptor is a very special ship and requires a special type of pilot. When setting up your Interceptor keep in mind 3 things: * Everyone has more firepower than you. * Everyone has more protection than you. * You are going to die. I know that sounds sort of bleak, but that is why the pilot must be able to accept those facts and not let a fear of them influence his/her combat effectiveness. To be successful in an Interceptor you will have to be very aggressive and flying by reaction. I will get more into that when we talk about tactics. Too many people load up a ship and head to Deep Space and then point a finger at everything and everyone but…

Loadouts: Pretty standard place to start is in dry dock. Now I follow a pretty standardised method for putting a ship together. I decide on the engine first, then I work on the weaponry, then reactor to run everything sparingly and then finally I start filling everything up as best I can with whats remaining. One thing the TIE Bomber can say has in its favour, is mass. It is roughly 190K mass (mine is 191639 to be exact). Engine: The engine is a bit of a debate really. As with a lot of ships you have 3 main choices: - Mark V Crafted: The best speed you will likely get out of an engine, low PYR rates and a painful RED EO4'd. Roughly 35k Mass. You…

I know this was reposted already, but that was the older version. Here is the latest version that was available before we switched to the new forum. If R-D ever gets out from under TCPrime, he can repost and I'll nuke this. Been a while since the original of this was posted, with Restuss now giving a nice renewal to mining (and a couple of people ripping off the old version) I feel it is time for a revised version (and the old one is locked, so I can't edit it). To start mining you need equipment, there are two essential items and one optional one. The essential kit is a mining laser and cargo hold, the optional item is a tractor beam. There are now three types …

[JTL] Crafted Or Re'd Guide

I got a wild hair the other night. I've always been Pro crafted boosters as I have always felt they are better than RE'ed. For the most part I know the arguments for and against crafted and the arguments for and against RE'ed. Too boil the arguments down, it goes like this, Crafted boosters are faster while RE'ed boosters burn longer. I know this is really simplifying the arguments but i'd be willing to bet most will agree with that over-simplification of the booster arguments. Ok, so I set out to prove, beyone any doubt, crafted boosters can and are better than RE'ed. The tough thing I've found is how to really rate a booster. Do you simply look at the burn ti…

[JTL] Overall What to loot and not loot guide

Most of the following is work done by our departed friend, Kayl_Breinhar. After he left, I decided to keep his work alive and update it as stuff changes. May this comprehensive guide be helpfull to you all. Level 1: Reactors - this is about it for L1 loot - pretty much everything else is expendable. In this bracket you're looking for high-gen reactors (12-13k range). I have an L1 DXR REed to 14032.1 gen, so ALWAYS LOOK AT THESE BEFORE SELLING THEM. Most are crap, some are gems. Also, STOP PUTTING YOUR STARTER SHIP PROTOTYPE COMPONENTS ON THE BAZAAR. They're WORTHLESS! You can't RE with them, you can't even sell them to the chassis dealer. Stop plugging up…

Originally posted by Centaurius. Reposted by NarfBlinko. Centaur’s Space Loot "Keep or Ditch" Guide Many times I hear people that really want to get into space so they start on their path grinding and then I hear them asking what to do with all their loot. They don’t want to destroy it or sell it in case they have good loot but yet they can’t keep it because it is quickly overwhelming their inventory. They really don’t have any idea what to keep or get rid of, so I have re-created this guide which has helped guide me on those decisions. This is a re-compilation of an excellent guide written by KaylBreinhar on 06 June 2005 which has been lost to the ages (unless s…

In my quest of immigrating to the Starsider server, I decided to take my time and start the tutorial, pilot style. The green text involves pilot content.[i'll work on coloring the text later.] The pilot quests that I cover come from Hanger Bay 1. For completing the line of missions, you receive a badge "...saved Tansarii Point Station from the Black Sun." If you finished that quest line before the badge was added, then you're bugged out of a badge. I tried ticking the CSRs, but they couldn't grant me the badge. Getting Started: The first part loaded me in the medical bay. C-3P0 shows up on-screen and instructs me around the room. Everywhere I have to go, …

[JTL] Complete Droid Command FAQ

This FAQ collects all the testing and data known for droid commands. Thanks to: Droid327, SciguyCO, Atanmir, Kitten_Starsider, Coreena, Loki_Ashaman and Imaridril for setting up the original FAQ. Xato, for setting up the post WO3 fix FAQ. Red-Dwarf and NarfBlinko for extensive testing. And Washell for the organization contained within this thread. Droid Commands Droid commands allow you to alter the stats of a component temporary. It's easiest to think of it as a buff. But unlike buffs on the ground they usually also have a downside. For the most commonly used ones, it means increased drain and energy per shot use. What do I need to use them? Yo…

[JTL] Learning To Fly Guide

All work done by 1st_Viduus. Spelling and grammatical updates by NarfBlinko. OK, like many of the pilots here, this is not my first space sim, so although some parts of JtL were challenging for me (Good Job Devs!) I found it fairly straightforward and tbh one space sim is as good as another, insofar as mechanics of space flight go. We do, however, have many many pilots who are having a great deal of trouble with it, and I'd like to start by saying: It's Normal! Don't be discouraged! Instead, take the time to learn. The first step in that direction is knowing what you need to do. I'm not talking about missions, but flight mechanics, the how-to's. I will try to stay aw…
