How to get a Y-8 Mining Vessel – for free!!!

Mission Contacts:

Flash Harrison: 1st Level, Kachirho Tree City, Kashyyyk.

Thom Steele: Dearic Cantina, Talus.

Captain Koh: 3rd Level, Kachirho Tree City, Kashyyyk.

Mission 1: Mission to Talus

Flash Harrison, self proclaimed pilot god, wants you to deliver a message to Thom Steele for him.

Go to Dearic Cantina, Talus, to deliver his message. Speak to Thom, get paid 1k for your trouble so far. He will then give you a mission to fly to Corellia space, to remove some miners.

Once in Corellia Space you will be given a patrol waypoint to go to. and then another.

You will face 3 Tier 3 Z-95 Headhunters at the second waypoint. You should face no more opposition, so, once you finish the patrol, return to Thom Steele in Dearic Cantina, Talus.

Thom Steele Thanks you and gives you a Class I Mining Laser, a Small Cargo Hold (Starfighter Class), and another mission to mine some rock for him.

Mission 2: Extract 250 units of Silicaceous Asteroid

Thom Steele says, “An abundance of Silicaceous Asteroids have entered the Corellia system recently, and we’d like a piece of those minerals. Head up there and get us a sample. You can keep whatever you mine, we’ll only scrape off a bit to test the quality. 250 units should be enough to get a proper sample.”

Equip your newly acquired mining laser and cargo hold. If you are in a ship with multiple Pilot-controlled guns, make sure you keep a regular gun equipped, as well. (Tip for multiple Pilot-controlled gun ships: Once in space, make sure you open your Weapon Group window ('G') and click Reset Defaults. Note which group number your mining laser is in.) Fly into space and activate the Silicaceous Asteroid waypoints. Pick one and head over to it. Start blasting away with just the mining laser until a chunk flies off (easiest way is to fire only the weapon group for the mining laser). Chase it down and blast that until it splits into even smaller bits. Blast these until they are all gone. You have to be quick, though, the bits soon fly off into the distance. Rinse and repeat until you get the mission successful message.

Back on the ground, you will want to empty your cargo hold. Make sure you have at least one open slot in your Inventory, then go to your Datapad, right click your ship, and choose Unload Cargo. You now have all that Silicaceous Asteroid in your inventory.

Return to Thom Steele, Dearic Cantina, Talus. He will pay you 2k and send you off to Kashyyyk to report to Captain Koh of the mining Fleet.

Mission 3: Extract 500 Units of Organometallic Asteroid

Captain Koh is on the 3rd level of Kachirho Tree City, Kashyyyk.

He will give you a mission to extract 500 units of Organometallic Asteroid in Kashyyyk space.

When you return he rewards you with 5k, then asks you to come back in a minute so he can study the sample. When you return he tells you that miners from Lok are stealing ore from Kashyyyk space, and sends you on another mission. He also gives you a Large Cargo Hold (Starfighter Class). Empty your current cargo hold, and equip the new one.

Mission 4: Extract 750 units of Obsidian Asteroid

The next mission is to extract 750 units of Obsidian Asteroid from Lok. Follow the same process: get to Lok, activate the waypoints for the Obsidian Asteroids, go to the nearest one, and start mining it to bits.

Mission successful will appear once you reach 750 units.

Return to Captain Koh and he will reward you with a tractor beam and 7.5k. Talk to him again to get another mission. He wants you to steal the cargo of a stranded freighter in Corellia space.

Mission 5: The Damaged Freighter

You may not be in a group while doing this mission.

You will need a ship with 2 guns for this mission.

Empty your cargo, and equip your ship with the Class I Mining Laser and the Tractor Beam given you by Captain Koh (do NOT use a crafted Tractor Beam or Mining Laser), then fly off to Corellian space (don't forget to reset your weapon groups and then remove the tractor beam from its weapon group). The freighter is a defenseless ship, but you will need to defend yourself against attacks, so be ready. When you get to the freighter, start your tractor beam (default toggle key is '6'). Note: Always use your Tractor Beam within 100m of the freighter. Toggle it off after a few seconds. Wait for the first wave of Tier 3 Z-95 Headhunters to appear. Kill them all and siphon more of the cargo from the damaged freighter. Again, turn off the beam after a few seconds. Wait for the second wave of Headhunters to appear. Kill them all. Resume siphoning cargo until you get the mission successful message and the freighter explodes.

Return to Captain Koh. He will reward you with 7.5k and you get to keep the cargo of Iron Asteroid you took from the freighter.

Mission 6: Broad Sample Part 1,2,3

The next mission, entitled “Broad Sample”, sends you off to get 125 units of minerals from 3 systems in the following order: Organometallic Asteroid from Kashyyyk, Icy Asteroid from Endor, and Crystal Asteroid from Dathomir. Using your tractor beam on the smallest asteroid chunks means you do not have to destroy them. Simply activate the tractor beam and it will be pulled into you. You may still have to follow it to get closer.

Once you have completed this, return to Captain Koh and he will reward you with a Class II Mining Laser and 10k.

Mission 7: Protect the Y-8 Convoy

This mission is a patrol and takes you to Kashyyyk space to escort a bunch of Y-8’s. Gear up for combat (i.e., put regular weapons in your ship) and get into space.

Once you reach your target, three Y-8’s will appear. They will ask you to activate your comm on any of the three when you're ready and then give the go ahead to start the journey.

Once you set off, almost immediately, groups of 3 Tier 3 Dunelizards spawn constantly for the duration of the journey. You must be very quick at killing for this part.

If all 3 Y-8's survive, you will eventually get the mission successful. You can now either clean up the few remaining pirates or hyperspace back to Kashyyyk. Either way, return to Captain Koh and he will reward you with 10k for your efforts.

Mission 8: Intercept the Gilded Wookiee

The next mission, “Intercept the Gilded Wookiee”, is the complete opposite of the previous. You must now destroy a convoy and its escort at the same place you escorted your convoy to safety. Gear up for combat, it's going to be messy. You will face 3 Tier 4 X-Wings, 3 Mercenary A-Wings (does not say what Tier), and The Gilded Wookiee, a Tier 3 Y-8.

You MUST destroy all ships, so there are no witnesses. Return to Captain Koh when the mission successful message appears.

Your reward is 12.5k.

Mission 9: Space Diamonds

Your next mission is in Kessel. You must Mine 500 units of Diamond from the Diamond Asteroids there. Be careful. Be ready.

To get to Kessel, go to your factional Deep Space station (Rebel = Dantooine, Station (Deep Space), Imperial = Endor (Imperial Claw Station), Neutral = Dathomir, Last Nav Station (Deep Space)).

There are 3 Diamond Asteroids in Kessel. They are easy to spot.

If you have mapped a key to “select next space object (any)” you can quickly target them and add waypoints.

Be aware: The Asteroids in Kessel can spawn multiples of 2 Asteroid Bandits which are Tier 5 KSE Firesprays or X-Wings.

Once you have completed your 500-unit quota, return once more to Captain Koh, where you will be rewarded with 15k, a Small Cargo Hold (Y-8 Class), and a brand spanking new Y-8 mining vessel.
